Susie Mae Palmer Ward

April 23, 1937

August 18, 2020

Ms. Susie Mae Palmer Ward, daughter of the late Mr. Robert Palmer, Sr. and Ms. Winnie McFarland, was born April 23, 1937; one of five siblings.

She was a lifelong member of St. Paul C.M.E. Church and served in several capacities over the years. She was dedicated to the Senior Choir and served as church treasurer for several years until her health began to fail.

Ms. Ward was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Leroy Ward for twenty-two years. To this union, five children were born.

She retired from Rose’s Department Store in West Point, Georgia as an Operations Manager. Ms. Ward opted for an early retirement, in order to become caregiver for her seasoned relatives so they wouldn’t have to be placed in nursing home facilities. This was the type of love she displayed throughout her life, always placing others before herself. She was kind, considerate, and very thoughtful.

Her earthly journey ended on Tuesday, August 18, 2020. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her aunt, Ms. Curlann McFarland, who assisted in rearing her as her own; two brothers: Mr. Robert Palmer, Jr. and Mr. John L. Johnson; two sisters, Mrs. Winnee Reed and Mrs. Rumsy Darden.

She leaves to treasure and honor her memories, six children: Kenneth (Almega) Palmer, Rose (Bruce) Alford, Cassandra (Harold) Jones, Candy (Pastor Anthony) Shealey, Kim (Joseph) Simmons, Josie Daniels, and Wendy Brewer; grandchildren: AJ, Amber, Jada, Ryan, Diamante, Amelia, Dazmon, Tiffany, and Michael; one great-grandchild, Camden; a special adopted family of the late Mr. Gary Rutledge, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, in Cannonville and the surrounding communities.
